Lead Free Brass Casting & Machined Parts — Compliant, Safe & Precision Engineered
Brass Parts India is a leading manufacturer and exporter of Lead Free Brass Castings and Machined Parts in India. As global regulations increasingly restrict lead in plumbing products, potable water fittings, and consumer goods, we offer a comprehensive range of lead-free brass alloy castings meeting the strictest international compliance standards — including NSF/ANSI 61, NSF/ANSI 372, EU RoHS, REACH, the US Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and WRAS.
Why Lead Free Brass?
Traditional free-machining brass alloys such as CW614N contain 1.5–3.5% lead, which improves machinability but poses serious health risks when it leaches into drinking water. Key regulatory drivers include:
- USA — NSF/ANSI 61 & 372: Wetted surfaces ≤0.25% weighted average lead (effective January 2014).
- EU — RoHS 2 Directive: Restricts lead in electrical and electronic equipment.
- EU — REACH Regulation: Restricts lead in articles to ≤0.1% where applicable.
- UK — WRAS: Stringent lead leaching limits for fittings in contact with potable water.
- Germany — KTW / DVGW: Certification for fittings in contact with drinking water.
- Australia — WELS & AS/NZS 4020: Testing requirements for products in contact with drinking water.
Lead Free Brass Alloys We Cast & Machine
Bismuth Brass (CW510L / CW713R)
Bismuth replaces lead as a machinability-enhancing element. Provides excellent machinability (comparable to CW614N), good pressure tightness, and full compliance with NSF/ANSI 61 and 372. Used for water meters, valves, taps, and plumbing fittings.
Silicon Brass (C69300 / Eco Brass)
Highly machinable, lead-free alloy with excellent dezincification resistance. Widely used in the USA and Asia for NSF 61/372-compliant plumbing products. Good corrosion resistance in aggressive water conditions.
Bismuth-Selenium Brass (CW724R)
Premium lead-free brass with bismuth and selenium additions — superior machinability, strength, and corrosion resistance. Certified to NSF/ANSI 61, NSF/ANSI 372, WRAS, KTW, and DVGW standards.
DZR Brass — Low Lead (<0.1%)
Dezincification Resistant brass with lead content below 0.1% for REACH compliance, maintaining excellent DZR properties for aggressive water applications including water meters, zone valves, and thermostatic mixing valves.
Casting Processes
- Sand Casting: Cost-effective for medium to large components — valve bodies, pump casings, meter bodies
- Investment Casting: Precision near-net-shape components for complex valves, connectors, and fittings
- Gravity Die Casting: Consistent quality and good dimensional accuracy in medium volumes
- Pressure Die Casting: High-volume production of thin-wall, precision components
CNC Machined Parts from Lead Free Brass
In addition to as-cast supply, we offer comprehensive in-house CNC machining to produce fully finished components to drawing:
- CNC Turning: Diameters, bores, threads, and profiles on multi-axis CNC lathes
- CNC Milling: Flat surfaces, slots, pockets, and complex profiles on machining centres
- Drilling & Tapping: All standard threads — BSP, NPT, metric, UNC/UNF
- Boring: Precision boring of valve bores and seating surfaces
- Assembly: Complete assembly of valve and fitting components
Applications
- Potable Water Systems: Taps, faucets, ball valves, gate valves, pipe fittings, manifolds
- Water Meters: Meter bodies, end caps, connector unions (NSF 61/372 compliant)
- Gas & LPG Fittings: Gas valves, regulator bodies, pipeline connectors
- Plumbing & Sanitary: Compression fittings, pushfit connectors, TMV bodies
- Heating Systems: Radiator valves, pump bodies, manifold blocks
- Food & Beverage: Brewery fittings, dairy pipe connectors, food processing valves

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is “lead-free” brass — how much lead is allowed?
Under US NSF/ANSI 372, a product is lead-free if wetted surfaces contain ≤0.25% weighted average lead. Under EU REACH, the restriction is typically ≤0.1% lead. For minimal lead content, bismuth brass (<0.09% lead) or silicon brass are recommended.
Q2. Is lead-free brass as machinable as leaded brass (CW614N)?
Modern alloys closely match traditional leaded brass machinability. Bismuth brass achieves 80–90% of CW614N machinability; silicon brass (C69300) achieves 70–80%. With appropriate tooling and cutting parameters, excellent surface finish and tool life are achieved.
Q3. How do you verify lead content in your castings?
We use two methods: (1) Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) on the melt before casting for accurate analysis of all elements including lead; (2) portable XRF analysis on finished castings for rapid screening. All castings supplied with MTC showing full chemical composition.
Q4. Do you offer DZR lead-free brass castings?
Yes. Our DZR lead-free brass alloys provide excellent dezincification resistance essential for soft, aggressive, or chlorinated water supplies. They comply with BS EN 12165 and can be tested to BS EN ISO 6509, widely specified for water meters, zone valves, and thermostatic mixing valves.
Q5. Can you replace our existing leaded brass castings with lead-free equivalents?
Yes. We offer a lead-free alloy substitution service — we review your existing drawings and specifications and recommend the most suitable lead-free alloy and process to achieve an equivalent or superior product with full compliance documentation.
Q6. What documentation do you provide for export?
We provide: MTC with full chemical analysis; RoHS/REACH Compliance Declaration; NSF 61/372 Alloy Compliance Declaration (where applicable); Country of Origin Certificate; plus SGS/Bureau Veritas test reports on request.
